Custom Dashboard

Dashboards in MVMCloud Analytics provide the ability to include multiple types of analytical data on a single page to facilitate analysis. You can customize dashboards to focus on your site's goals and then optimize them with your specific analytics users and use cases in mind. For example, a business director seeking a high-level overview level will be interested in a set of reports. As a digital marketing team that delivers a content marketers will want something else.

Create Dashboards and Customize Widgets and Layout

You can create and customize as many dashboards as you need. Within each panel, you can select your own selection of widgets and organize them into different layouts. Most of these settings are available in the panel menu. You can access this menu on any dashboard page by clicking the Dashboard button in the Data Selector area.

How to Create a New Dashboard

Anytime there's a unique collection of reports that you need to check regularly, it's worth considering creating a dashboard. There may be some reports that you check daily, while others are only useful monthly or for specific projects. In any case, you can create task-oriented dashboards containing elements from various sections of your analytics data.

The steps to create a new dashboard are as follows:

  • Go to the Control Panel section in the main navigation (top of the screen);
  • Click on the Control Panel button;

    Control Panel Button

  • Click Create new panel to open the panel creation pop-up;

    Create Control Panel

  • Enter a descriptive name;

  • Choose between an Empty panel (recommended) or the default panel;
  • Click OK and then Add a widget to load the widget selection menu and get started.

How to Add a Widget to the Dashboard

Once in the Dashboard section, click the Dashboard button in the data picker area to open the Dashboard menu. At the top of this menu, you will see a section to Add a widget. This menu area lists all available widgets that you can add to your dashboard.

You can add as many widgets as you need. Generally, you should add your most frequent stats so you can quickly track them after logging in.

How to Manage Existing Widgets

To manage existing widgets on your dashboard: Hover over the top-right corner of the widget card to open the Widget menu.

In the menu you will see 4 items:

  • Icon refresh Update - Updates the widget data with any changes since it was uploaded. This can be especially useful when testing and analyzing real-time activity on your website.
  • Icon minimize Minimize - This temporarily hides the data in the widget, which can be useful if you have a lot of widgets on a page or certain data that doesn't need to be checked often.
  • Icon maximize Maximize - There are two possible actions when clicking this icon . If the widget is minimized and you cannot see any data, it will return to its normal size. If the widget is already full size, clicking this icon will load a pop-up containing a larger version of the data. Maximized widgets can make data in certain charts easier to read.
  • Icon delete Delete - This completely deletes the widget from your dashboard . You should only use it if you are not interested in seeing this widget on the dashboard again. If you want to see it later, you'll need to re-add the widget to your dashboard.

How to Customize Your Dashboard Layout

When you first add new widgets to your dashboard, they may not be in the most logical order. Additionally, some widgets work better at a smaller or larger size. This is where customizing your dashboard layout comes in.

Modify the number of columns in the panel

On the dashboard page, click the Dashboard button. This will open the dashboard menu where you will see a Manage Dashboard section on the bottom. In this section, there is a panel layout change button that allows you to change the number and width of columns on the page. You can have between one and four columns of varying widths. It's usually easier to choose a layout after you've selected your dashboard widgets, so you know how much space you need for each one.

Remove, Rename and Reset a Dashboard

Also in the Manage Dashboard section of the Dashboard menu, you will find several options for the dashboard you are working with. The settings are pretty self-explanatory.

  • You can click remove panel to delete the current panel you are viewing. You can't delete the default panel, but you can remove any other panels that you no longer need.
  • There is a dashboard reset link that removes all widgets from the current dashboard and replaces them with the default setting so you can start again.
  • You can also use the rename panel link to customize the label shown in the main navigation. Setting descriptive names for your dashboards makes it easier to navigate between them.

Share Custom Dashboards with Other Users

If you work on a team with multiple people accessing your analytics, you can create and share custom dashboards with other users. This means you can share useful dashboards among your team for a central point of reference. Or you can share your key performance indicators with members of your broader organization. This function is only available to Administrators.

In the Manage Panel menu, click on Copy the panel to a user, then a window will open for you to share, as follows:

Select the username you want to receive the dashboard and click OK.

Once confirmed, the user you selected will now have access to your dashboard template and its exact set of widgets and layout.

Note: If you delete your original dashboard, it will only delete your own dashboard. Dashboards that we copy to other users will still be accessible to them.
