Segmentation

The segments functionality in MVMCloud Analytics allows you to view and analyze reports on smaller groups of your audience, based on specific criteria, such as country or purchase. While it's useful to collect data about each website visitor, sometimes you want to know more about a certain type of website visitor.

The criteria for defining these segments are based on the data collected in your analyses. Below you will find some common themes that can be used to create segments:

  • Visit-Based Segments – You can create segments based on people's visiting patterns. First-time visitors exhibit different characteristics than returning visitors? Or perhaps people who land on specific landing pages experience your website differently than those who land on your blog?
  • Interaction-Based Segments – If you've set up events or goals on your website, you can create segments to differentiate traffic from those who complete certain actions or not. This can help you reveal broader trends for visitors completing desired actions.
  • Campaign-Based Segments – Go beyond tracking the number of visits to your marketing campaigns. Get deeper insights into different usage patterns of people coming to your website from specific traffic sources or advertising campaigns.
  • ecommerce segments – you can create customer segments to separate traffic from those who have made a purchase from those who have not. You might even be really specific and compare visits associated with buyers of a specific product. The data can reveal different types of customers with unique browsing patterns.
  • Demographic Segments – You can create segments based on a user's browser language or IP address location or any other custom dimension. While this may have some privacy implications, it can help you understand how these aspects affect what people do on your site.
  • Technographic Segments – The experience on your website can vary greatly depending on the device, or even the browser that someone uses to access your website. Creating segments Based on the technology a customer is using can reveal issues for certain platforms or even different attitudes among users.
