Preview/Debug a Tag Manager Container

One of the most important features of a Tag Manager is the possibility of testing it before putting it into production. It's important to note that the tags you publish may have some consequences on your site's performance (display, loading time, etc.). The live version for your website. Using preview/debug mode is straightforward; Once your potential tags, triggers, and variables are defined, simply click Preview/Debug:

View and debug a container in the tag manager

You will be notified immediately via the control panel that you are in the selected mode:

Warning about enabling debugging a container in the tag manager

Enter the URL you want to debug, you need to type http:// or https://, and press debug to start debug mode for that site.

In some cases, you will need to append ?mvmPreviewMode=ContainerID&mvmSetDebugFlag=1 to your site URL to see the debug console:

Every time you perform an action defined as a trigger: PageView, Click, Scroll, etc., you will see it appearing on the left with the associated tag triggered on the right.

You can see screenshots of the MVMCloud Analytics documentation site below after container debugging is enabled. Any link that is clicked triggers the "click all links" trigger and the debug screen shows what happened.

To put it simply, the debugging feature allows you to find your own errors and fix them without needing help from a developer.
